MUSIC FESTIVAL

The annual Kinross Wolaroi School Music Festival will be held in the Derek Pigot Auditorium on Thursday 10 June, at 7pm.  The format of this event will be a departure from previous years.  Whilst all co-curricular ensembles will perform as usual, the audience will be seated at tables of eight and are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner along. Our hope is that in addition to giving our students a much needed platform to perform, we can also provide an opportunity to foster community after a year of being separated.

The Music Festival will be a fundraising concert - we will be raising money to buy a set of specialist musicians’ chairs for our ensembles to use. We hope the School community will rally to support us to buy the chairs we need!

Tickets will be available shortly through Trybooking and numbers will be limited to enable us to comply with current COVID-19 restrictions.  We will be in contact soon with further information regarding obtaining tickets.

We encourage parents to bring family and friends to enjoy a wonderful evening of music and camaraderie.

SYDNEY YOUTH ORCHESTRA TOUR

The Year 9 and Year 10 Music classes travelled to the Orange Regional Conservatorium on Friday to watch a fabulous performance by the Sydney Youth Chamber Ensemble. It was a medley of sounds from two violins, a viola, a cello, a double bass, a french horn, a bassoon and a clarinet, and they performed pieces by Chamber composers - Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn. I especially loved hearing the excerpt of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, though as a string player I'm probably a bit biased! Going on this excursion was so much fun and I learnt that being a music teacher 'seems like a vibe' (2nd Violinist) and that it's never too late to start. Thank you so much to Mrs McRae and Mrs Moxey for taking us!

Stephanie Wong, Year 10

An absolutely exquisite experience!! It was fantastic to witness such talented players in an ensemble that was truly connected with one another. It was great to listen to some of the finest chamber music around, and we were able to get an insight into how the SYO players got to where they are now, and what their plans were for the future.

Toby Gough, Year 10

On Friday 30 April, the Year 9 and 10 elective music classes went on an excursion to the Orange Regional Conservatorium to watch a concert. The concert consisted of eight Sydney youth orchestra members who played movement five and six of the Schubert Octet. The Octet included two violins, a viola, cello, double bass, bassoon, french horn, and a clarinet. We listened to a section of the piece and then it was broken down for us with the concepts and elements of the piece explained, giving us a better idea of what was going on. We learnt about chamber music, how different techniques affect the mood and tone of the piece and much more. After we had heard the piece played, we had an opportunity to ask questions and we learnt about the players, and where they wanted to go with music as a career. The concert was a very enjoyable performance, and we all learnt a lot from it.
