From the Senior Sportsmaster

Many thanks for your patience with regards to the tightened COVID restrictions over the past couple of weeks.  We will be returning to the protocols we had in place prior to the most recent outbreak.  To that end, we would ask parents of the 1st XV and 2nd XV Rugby teams to offer any assistance they can with regards to afternoon tea which will follow the 1st XV game against The Kings School on Saturday.

We will publish all COVID protocols for this weekend on the College App this Friday.

Mr Matt Stearn - Senior Sportsmaster

Fixtures for this Saturday

Saturday 29 May – ISA Round 1

By way of a heads up, Round 1 of the ISA season is a BYE for St Pius X and this appears in the College Calendar. All teams (except the Opens) however, have been given an un-matched fixture for Saturday 29 May, which I hope to host at Oxford Falls. Please do not make plans this weekend as your son will be required to play rugby on that day.

Training

A reminder that Rugby Training is compulsory each Tuesday and Thursday, with the U14s,15s,16s and Opens training at Oxford Falls, while the U13s will now train at Beauchamp Oval. All players are expected to train at both sessions, so they are best prepared for the season.

Rugby Registration  - NOW OPEN!

All Year 7-12 students wishing to play rugby are required to be registered to be included in a team, allowing the school rugby administrators & coaches to best prepare for the coming season, plus allow your P&F Rugby Club to best support and communicate with you! There are no trials or grading days, all students of different shapes, sizes and abilities can find a home within the SPX Rugby Program.

2021 Rugby Season Registration: $150 (cost includes season registration & access to rugby specific physio during the season)

Football

What a tremendous win by our College 1st XI in the NSWCIS cup against a strong Newington outift. The team came from behind to win on penalties, with Goalkeeper Pat Moore, once again being the hero of the day. The night semi-final is on the Wednesday 16 June at Valentine Park, COVID restrictions dependant, the College will aim to provide buses for student supporters.

Teams performed well on the weekend against St Pat’s Strathfield, the highlight being the 14C with their 13-0 victory.

A reminder that if you are sick and unable to attend a game or training you MUST notify your coach. Full attendance is part of students extra curricular requirements.

Week 6 Training reminders: U13’s need to bring sneakers for Futsul on Monday, U14’s need to bring sneakers for Futsul on Wednesday.

This weekend’s venues fields can be found at the following locations:

Chifley:  801-899R Bunnerong Road, Chifley

ISA Tennis

Our season continues with some of teams really strengthening as the season progresses. Last weekend saw our teams spread over several venues playing against 6 different teams. Our First Five performed extremely well on the courts, with an impressive 7-1 win against Central Coast Grammar School.

This weekend brings us to Round 4 of the competition. All our teams are playing against Oakhill College. Please take note that the Away games are being played at two different venues. See the draw below.

Just a reminder – players must arrive at the courts between 7:30 am and 7:45 am, ready to warm-up before the match start time of 8:00 am.

WHEN WE HOST LORETO COLLEGE, NORMANHURST AT SPX THIS FRIDAY.

This Friday we host Loreto College, Normanhurst. Our meeting room is the Year 10 Blue Room. Seating will be arranged both inside and outside The Blue Room.

The coaches and I must say how wonderful it is having so many parents attending debate nights. It makes such a difference when the students have an audience—their confidence expands, and they enjoy the night so much more.  Grandparents and doting Aunts and Uncles are welcome. Parents can drive down Kirk Street and park in the school yard on the night. The Blue Room is near the Ferguson Lane entrance, but this is only a pedestrian access point. The Anderson Street side door will be open for the night. We look forward to seeing you all. No masks are required but we all need to register using the school QR code once on site. Times for commencement of debates is approximate but our timeline for the night is noted above.

Congratulations to all SPX students for their outstanding behavior last Friday evening.  Wins on the night were awarded to: 12A, 12B, 11A, 11B, 9B, 8A, 8B, 7A, 7B.

Congratulations to all.
