Lights, Camera ... ROXY!

Term 2 in Performing Arts at RPPS!

It's been a fun term in Performing Arts at RPPS and very exciting to witness the                                                   music, drama and dance skills of the Roxy students!

Foundation students explored The Very Hungry Caterpillar this term, and learnt a song to go with it. They explored the lifecycle of a caterpillar through dance, and used their bodies and movement to represent a caterpillar spinning a cocoon and emerging as a beautiful butterfly! Students showed off their understanding of the musical elements of beat and rhythm by playing along to some classical music with excellent timing.

Grade 1 & 2 students focused on the musical elements of beat, rhythm and pitch, and had fun creating all sorts of sounds using their voices, body percussion, and a range of percussion instruments. They learnt how to rap, and performed The Dinosaur Rap, complete with actions, in front of their peers. The Grade 2s even started creating their own raps, and will have a chance to record their original creations.

Grade 3 & 4 students have been practicing hard and learning to play the ukulele! They've mastered playing some notes, and even played some songs together as whole class bands. They also spent a bit of time learning about the musical stave and reading music notation, and practiced sight reading different notes and symbols while playing the ukulele.

Grades 5 & 6 students focused on teamwork this term, using the Musical Futures program to learn new instruments and practice playing together. They also explored notation and worked on being able to read the notes on the stave. Soon they will be able to tie these two skills together, reading notes and playing them together in a musical group. During remote learning, some students demonstrated excellent digital composition skills by creating a piece of music online.
