Year 2 Report

What a term its been! We had such a fun term full of learning and achievements! 2A and 2C had settled well with their new teachers, but just as we were in our rhythm, Covid struck and we were forced to continue our learning at home. It wasn't easy but we adjusted our teaching and learning programs and kept going!

We'd like to take the opportunity to commend the students on their ability to adapt to remote learning and a HUGE thank you to the parents, carers and families for supporting the teachers and helping you child continue to learn.

Mathematics

Our students worked hard on developing their addition and subtractions skills throughout the term. We introduced a number of different strategies to assist the students to solve problems and provided them with a variety of opportunities to apply their new skills.

Some of the strategies the students learnt to assist them when solving addition and subtraction problems were;

  • Counting forwards and backwards from a starting number
  • using commutativity (e.g 4+6 = 10 therefore 6 + 4 must also = 10)
  • using doubles and tens facts
  • adding 10 and taking 10

English

This term has been full of facts and information! In Reading we had a focus on Non Fiction texts.  The students have been exposed to rich literature and discovered the many features of non fiction texts. They have questioned while reading and have learnt to summarise the important information from a text.

In Writing, they learnt about the features and the structure of an information report. With lots of modelling and practice the students have been able to produce their own information reports and the results were fantastic!

Inquiry

During Inquiry this term the students explored all the different communities they belonged to such as their families, school and the Roxburgh Park community. They were able to explain the importance of belonging and express how this makes them feel.
