Create, Contribute, Compete!

Our teachers provide opportunities for students to engage deeper in their learning experience by participating in competitions.  These learning opportunities draw out creativity and imagination, promote critical thinking, develop skills, motivate students, and drive them to put forth their best effort.

Be The Change You Want To Sea

Mrs Au's Year 9 Culture and Community class organised a competition for 2D and 3D artwork on the theme of 'Be the change you want to Sea'.  Students had to use recycled rubbish to create their art. Here are our talented winners and their artwork, which will be displayed at a public showcase at the Darius Wells Library on 23 June 2021, and also be on display at the Primary Assembly on 1 July.

Big Science Competition

Article by Mr Hudson Servina, Head of Science, Mathematics and Technologies

On Friday 21 May 2021, students at The King’s College took part in the Big Science Competition for the first time. The quiz is taken annually by Year 7 to 10 students across the country. The quiz aims to challenge students’ scientific understanding at a level similar to what is expected of them by the Australian curriculum.

This year, 34 of our most studious Science students were selected to take part in the competition. Jayde Farley and Alvin Santiago were among them. When asked about their experience, these students said that the quiz appeared hard initially, but it was reasonable and easy once they got into it. They also said that it was a bit different to what they were used to in school when completing science assessments (maybe a bit like an exam). Overall, they said that they enjoyed the whole process.

Next year, the aim is to involve all lower secondary students in this competition, as for the first time this year the quiz was 100% online and 100% free. We look forward to our students' results this year and who knows, some of them may actually win some fantastic prizes.

Rotary Event:  The 4 Way Test Speaking Competition

Year 10s from The King's College will be participating in this event on Monday 28 June.

The competition aims to provide Year 10 students with an opportunity to compete in a public speaking competition, thereby fostering excellence in the art of public speaking and developing the confidence and self-esteem of participating students.

Each participant may choose their own topic but must explore the four principles of the Rotary Four-Way Test in the speech:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Thank you to Mr Joshua East for his involvment.
