Make a Beautiful Noise!

Peripatetic Music Concert

A few weeks ago, we enjoyed hearing students show what they had been learning in their individual music lessons (Peri lessons). Our teachers have been working with students on Piano, Voice, Guitar and Drums, and parents came in to hear the fruit of lots of hard work and practice. Great talent and lovely music from all the performers.

For more information on private music tutoring lessons, please contact Mrs Sue Jonath (suej@tkc.wa.edu.au) from the Music Department.

"I have been taking voice lessons for three years. I enjoy learning new ways to enhance my talent as a singer and finding a voice I never knew I had. The highlight of my singing journey is getting some chances on singing on the microphone. I am hoping for more performance opportunities. When I sing contemporary songs, I feel connected to the song and lyrics. For my concert piece, I chose a worship song entitled, “What A Beautiful Name”. This is one of the popular songs we sing during Chapel services at school. Singing relaxes me and it gives me a chance to escape all my problems, especially when I am singing a worship song, it really connects me to God." Selena V.

"I took up singing lessons at the end of last year. My mum and I love music, and I have been singing for as long as I can remember. One highlight of my vocal lesson is definitely just having fun. I enjoy it and from that, I have built a strong bond with my tutor. I prepared my concert piece, “ Shackles” by Mary Mary, multiple times by performing it for my mum.  I chose this piece because it is my mum’s favourite song. When I am singing, something comes over me and it feels like it is just me in the world and I have the power to do anything and everything." Bethany M.
"It has been only three terms since I have taken drum lessons. Rhythm makes me happy. I am very glad to be able to use what I learn and apply it to play at Chapel services at school. The piece I performed at the concert was “ In Jesus’ Name” by Israel Houghton. I put in a lot of practice. Playing the drums takes me to a place where everything is just music and myself." Tawana C.

"I have been taking piano lessons for nearly four years. The thing I enjoy about learning the piano is that every song I play tells a story. In my piano lesson, we usually listen to the songs I have been practising and my tutor will help me improve on my playing and technique. I love the new challenges she sets for me. I enjoy performing at the recent Peripatetic Concert. The piece I played was "Chatushka" which is a short Russian folk song. It is a playful tune. I like playing the piano because I feel full of joy when I make music." Harkeerat K.

Creative Club Open Day

The King's College Creative Club hosted Austin Cove Baptist College, which came to learn how we do our worship and chapel services. We had a great time of worship together as our guests joined us in the "MOSH" (Meaningful Opportunities for Spiritual Health) pit as we danced and praised God.

Micah Walker, our Music Captain from last year, came back to help mentor our upcoming leaders. She interviewed our current Music Captains about how Creative Club helps each student to grow in their friendships, their gifts and talents, and in their walk with God.

We then went into workshop time to learn a great new song which we will soon introduce at Chapel. The guest students were really encouraged to see so many young people stepping up to be a positive voice in the school. After some refreshments and networking together, they went away with some fresh ideas for starting a little chapel crew of their own.
