Shelford Innovation and Learning Centre opening

The Glen Eira City Council Mayor, Cr Margaret Esakoff, in front of over 70 guests, officially opened Shelford Girls’ Grammar’s newly refurbished Shelford Innovation and Learning Centre (SILC) on 25 May 2021.

SILC is home to our Year 12 students who use this space to gather and study, discuss and learn. The Centre brings our senior girls together to focus on problem solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration and communication – the innovation and entrepreneurial skills we view as so important for our students. It is a place where they meet with staff supporting them through their studies and career planning. A place in which they dream about and prepare for their futures.

Strong women leaders featured prominently in the official party and are pictured below (left–right):

At Shelford, energy matters

After the delays caused by COVID in 2020, Shelford has recently installed a solar panel system installed by RACV Gippsland solar. The combined 99.6 kW Solar PV system is located on three buildings:

  • Baddam (Southern Wing of the Senior School and Food Studies) Building (28.8 kW)
  • Creswick (Junior School) Building (37.6 kW)
  • School Hall (33.2 kW)

With an expected life of at least 20 years, this significant investment is expected to substantially reduce Shelford’s carbon footprint.

As part of this ongoing carbon footprint initiative Shelford has replaced lights with LED panels, installed motion sensors for toilets, lighting plus timers for external LED security lights, providing further savings and reduced use of electricity.
