Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

What a week!  I do not think anyone could have predicted that we would be in lockdown at the beginning of this week - especially when we had just commenced activities such as choirs, assemblies, and parent helpers.  Fingers crossed the lockdown achieves the desired outcome and all students are back on site next Friday.

Assemblies are a great forum to raise issues related to one of our four values.  At the last grade 4-6 assembly, the word discrimination was raised and linked to our value of Inclusiveness.  Our school definition of Inclusiveness is:

We embrace difference, treat people fairly, and create opportunities so that everyone feels like they belong.

Students were asked to consider the ways discrimination can occur in the school setting and we explored how bystanders can help when they see discriminatory behaviours. Many classrooms are creating posters to display around the school about positive bystander behaviour.  It would be great if parents can talk with their children about what they can do if they see something happening that they know is wrong or they feel uncomfortable about.

This week is National Reconciliation Week.  The theme this year is MORE THAN A WORD. RECONCILIATION TAKES ACTION.  This theme encourages us all to take braver and more impactful action towards the reconciliation process.  This link takes you to the Reconciliation Week website where you can find out more about Reconciliation Week.  It also outlines 20 actions that we can all take for Reconciliation in 2021.  We look forward to children taking part in our planned reconciliation incursion when we return from lockdown.

Take care and we hope to see you soon.

Megan
