SIP Draft Assessment Plan

Berry Street Training Postponed

Unfortunately confirmation was received last Friday that the Berry Street training planned for week 9 has had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak which has occurred in Victoria. The presenters of the Berry Street training are from Melbourne and it is unlikely that they are going to be permitted to travel. Alternative arrangements are currently being investigated and will be shared with you as soon as they are announced.

Sorry Camp at Naparyi

As we discovered on Friday, Sorry Camp has been established at Naparyi and a large influx of students are expected to arrive as early as Monday. We had 13 students attend on Friday and this is expected to grow to 20+ on Monday and possible more as the week continues. It is important that you ensure that you are as prepared as possible for the growing numbers.

External Review Date Change

The date of our upcoming External Review has been slightly adjusted and is now scheduled to occur in week 6 of Term 3.

Statement of Purpose

Thank you to all staff for their contribution to the development of our collective 'Statement of Purpose' which is pasted below. The collaborative development and documentation of these types of shared agreements is an important component of our improvement journey. It is important that we share a common understanding of our work and our priorities as we move forward. I am very pleased with our 'Statement of Purpose' as it concisely describes our collective purpose and highlights improvement in reading as the priority of our work with all students at Murputja Anangu School.

Reading Intervention Room

The development and resourcing of our Reading Intervention Space is progressing nicely. SPELD decodable readers have arrived.

These decodables texts will play an important role in the teaching of reading as we move forward.

I hope to have the room established with decodables, leveled readers and various other reading intervention teaching materials and resources available to support this work within the coming days.

A visual display has also been created in the room which outlines the English 'Alphabetic Code'. The important principles of the alphabetic code will be shared during this week's professional learning component of our staff meeting, along with information relating to 'The Big Six'.

Classroom Organisation

It is great to see the continuing improvement of our classroom learning environments with the arrival of new student desks, chairs and storage trolleys etc. Thank you to staff for making sure that this furniture is assembled and ready for the students to utilize.

With the influx of students in the coming days, it is important that we take the time to discuss our expectations with students to ensure that our classrooms are respected and kept clean and tidy. I ask that you all take the opportunity to revisit routines and expectations regarding the keeping of a tidy and organised classroom.

I also ask that as professionals we make the time to ensure that our classrooms are clean and tidy at the end of the day and prior to the start of each school day. Obviously, the children should be encouraged to 'keep their classroom' clean and tidy'.

The teacher's role is to set the expectation, create the routines and maintain the standard. Setting and maintaining a higher standard is an important part of our work. If a messy classroom is acceptable as a standard then what message does send about our the acceptable standard of learning?

Please work with your students to create a pleasant, organised and tidy learning environment. This will also require teachers investing some of your own time ensuring that resources etc are organised and tidy.

Debrief Review Process

Thank you also for your continued work in conducting the daily debrief process. Obviously with the increasing number of students this will require additional time to implement, but it is important that we maintain the process.

Can I please ask that you take photos of the new students in your class and send them to me on the day of their arrival and I will do my best to have a folder created for them ready for the review discussions.

One Plan

The One Plan personalised learning sessions continue during the school holidays, with a focus on child and student voice. There are 2 sessions on Thursday 8 July at the Education Development Centre (EDC).

Session 1: 9.00am to 12.00pmThe ‘how to’ of authentic learner involvement in co-designing their personalised learning. Learn how to document this in a student’s One Plan.

Session 2: 12.30pm to 3.00pm Senior advisors are available to support the documentation and designing of personalising learning including embedding student voice, designing the learning, designing adjustments, any other aspect of personalised learning.
