From the Principal

Term 2, Week 4, Kevin Kennedy

Dear Parents and Carers,

NAPLAN

NAPLAN was successfully held this week, with limited interruptions to the online assessment portal. The students managed themselves well and the teachers were generally happy with the process and how the students performed. Results will be available in September.

POOL

Funding has been approved for the design and documentation stage of the swimming pool at West Beach Primary School. Spotless (our facilities manager) will be organising a company to run the project. We are still working towards the pool being ready for term four swimming lessons.

Way2GoWest Beach Primary School has one of the highest rates of students who cycle to school in the state. We are currently investigating to see if we can improve on our current standing and encourage more students to either ride or walk to school. We are currently working with the Way2Go organisation to make this happen.

Way2Go is a statewide South Australian program promoting safer, greener and more active travel for primary school students and their communities. It uses a whole school approach built on a partnership between local councils, school communities and the Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT).

Early next week you will be receiving a survey that will help us understand how the West Beach Primary School community gets to school. We will use this information to plan and promote more active travel options for our students.

Pupil Free Day

We have our Pupil Free Day on Friday 11th June. On the day staff will be examining the science behind reading in attempt to better understand how children learn to read.  We will also be examining some new planning and curriculum documents released by the Department for Education.

2022 Enrolments

As you are no doubt aware we are farewelling both our year six and seven students this year as they head of to high school in 2022,  an exciting time for students and their families. As a result our student numbers will be significantly lower next year, approximately 290 (we currently have 328 students enrolled).  This will mean we will have two less classes.

We are currently working through what this means for our current staffing numbers and how our classes, their composition will look in 2022. I will provide more information throughout the year as we get closer to placing students into classes.

Kind regards,

Kevin Kennedy
