Art & The Treehouse Studio

Chalk Boy workshop

This month, the Tree House Studio had a special guest all the way from Japan.  The children worked with Chalk Boy, an artist who uses chalk to make creative images and text.

Yuki and Eito translated for Chalk Boy as he explained his his artwork.  He showed the children a mesmerising time lapse video of him applying images and text to walls, furniture and even a cake.  Yuki and Chalk Boy showed the children how to write their names in Japanese and then the children had a go at applying text creatively through chalk.

A big thank you to Yuki who organised Chalk Boy to come and visit.

It was a wonderful introduction to our lines of inquiry this term. Linking into the Sunroom’s classroom inquiry, ‘We Are Authors: We All Have Stories That Matter’ the children are exploring two lines of inquiry in Art:

Images can be used to tell a story

Artists use text in unconventional ways
