Plans for 2019

Government support for our big plans for our littlest people

Our big news this week regards the Kindergarten.

Preshil has been successful in achieving a generous grant of $125,000 under the State Government’s ‘Children’s Facilities Capital Program’ to build a connection between the Kindergarten and the ‘Garden Room’.  We have a wonderful set of preliminary drawings which includes a connecting walkway with a very clever and whimsical ‘overpass’ so we can still access Peppercorn Lane.

This grant was due to the terrific work of Anna Tibb, so we are very grateful to her for the thought and hard work she put in to ensuring we were successful in what was a very detailed and complex process.  Bryce McLean was also a key contributor to this effort.

We have been extremely lucky to have the services of the highly regarded architect, Michael Markham.  Michael has come up with a very clever and satisfying solution to how this integration of the two spaces can be resolved and we are very excited about the improvement this addition will make to the space, both internally and externally.

Michael is also very sensitive to the Arlington environment and I am completely confident that this construction will be complementary to the original Kevin Borland vision as well as being a key element in enabling us to offer more Kindergarten places in response to the increased demand and ensuring consistently strong enrolments into the Fives each year.

The timeline for completion of this work will need to be built around the needs of our Kindergarten program and I will let you know when we expect the work to be completed.

The Year 12 Valedictory Dinner

This week there is a shared excitement and anticipation at both Arlington and Blackhall Kalimna as our Year 12 students and the Arlington children prepare for this significant event on Friday evening.

Please take the opportunity to have a look at the decorations the children have made and are installing in the Hall.  They will be farewelling our final cohort of VCE students, some of whom began their schooling 15 years ago in the Kindergarten.

From next year our Year 12 students will have completed the International Baccalaureate, but I am sure the Valedictory celebrations will be just the same.

Plans for 2019

A letter was sent out this afternoon to all families with information about the classrooms and teaching teams for 2019.  You are warmly welcomed to make a time to discuss any implications you consider these plans may have for your child.  There has been considerable consultation with the teachers and careful consideration of how the groupings will work at each level so we look forward to hearing your feedback and talking with you as finer details are added.
