Middle Years

Invest in Learning:

Teachers are currently reviewing students’ learning and writing reports. It is a time of reflection, we reflect on our teaching practices, and reflect on the positive progress in our students. I have daily conversations with students and parents about learning routines and homework routines, and there are students who are reluctant to commit to their studies. Teenagers often try to convince themselves that there is an easy path, but learning requires significant effort.

In MyPEC we expect students to take control of their learning, and this means defining their learning goals and monitoring their progress. The Term 3 Reports are released next week, and so this is a timely conversation for all families. Mentors will be following up with students and reviewing their reports.

The three key questions:

  1. Where are you going?
  2. How are you going?
  3. Where to next?

Learning Tips:

  • Commitment - learning requires active involvement from the learner.
  • Learning is a social activity.
  • New knowledge is constructed on the basis of what you already know.
  • Use effective and flexible strategies to help you understand, reason, memorise and solve problems.
  • Plan and monitor your learning.
  • Learning takes considerable time and periods of practice to start building expertise.
  • Invest – put in greater effort.
  • Be open to new ideas
