Myrniong - Early Learning and Primary

2017

Thank you to the fabulous Junior School learning community for an energetic and rewarding 2017.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous 2018.

Speech Day

Speech Day was a terrific occasion.  Thank you to all the parents who helped on the day, particularly Penny Adamson and her team of Year 4 parents.  It was wonderful to see and speak with so many grandparents and parents at the afternoon tea.  To Mrs Natalie Povey - thank you for all the tremendous behind the scenes work to make the day happen!  Our Prep to Year 5 students were amazing and really performed beautifully on stage.  Thank you to our incredible Music department- Mrs Anne Kristin Christie, Mr Ben Singh, Mrs Kathryn Salt, Mrs Kate Wear and Mr Benjamin Hiscock. Congratulations to Lachlan Reid and Nick Hoskyns for their solo performances - just remarkable boys!  To our departing Year 5 students; we wish you well as you start your Middle Years journey.

Testing and Assessment at the Junior School

This year we have reviewed out testing regime.  Starting in 2018, we will be dispensing with the one to one Numeracy interviews.  The Junior School will initiate assessment of Literacy and Numeracy from Prep to Year 5 using the PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests) resources from the Australian Council of Educational Research.  The standardized battery of tests allows teachers to track student progress throughout primary years.  This information will be used by the teachers to identify students in need of consolidation and extension in different areas of the curriculum.  Testing will take place during Term One and in Term Four.  This testing will be conducted online and in class time.  This will replace the individual Numeracy interview.

If parents and students wish to ‘touch base’ with their 2018 teachers, we will be conducting an ‘Open Classroom’ session on Wednesday 31st January, from 2.00 pm to 3.00pm.  If you have your book boxes, you are most welcome to call in and drop them off into classrooms.
