Italian Classes at Sydenham
Our Year 7 students studied the topic of “La Famiglia” (The Family) during Term 3. The topic was mostly completed during remote learning. Students then completed a project introducing their family and describing each member. I congratulate all students on their efforts in working under challenging circumstances. Here is a small sample, showing an extract of their fabulous work.
Nella mia famiglia ci sono quattro persone, mia madre, mio padre, mia sorella, Jasmine ed io. Jasmine ha dieci anni. Io ho tredici anni. La famiglia Grech ha anche un gatto manx che si chiama Mickey. Mickey è pigro e spritoso. (Charlotte, 7E1)
Questa è mia madre. Si chiama Lisa. Mia madre è bassa e intelligente. Ha trenta anni. IL suo compleanno è il diciotto luglio.
A lei piace ascoltare la musica. Ha gli occhi marroni e i capelli neri.

ABCN Women Leadership Focus
On the 26th of October, a number of female leaders from Copperfield College, Sydenham Campus and Kings Park Campus attended an ABCN Focus meeting over Zoom about women in leadership. We spoke about women that inspire us and our strengths as leaders and then we were put into breakout rooms with mentors from WSP and Macquarie. They told us about their experiences as women in male-dominated career fields and how they got to where they are now. They shared words of encouragement and asked us about what we wanted to achieve in the future. It was such an enjoyable and educational experience and a great opportunity for emerging female leaders.

Author Virtual Incursion
Oliver Phommavanh, young fiction author, presented an online session in November for all Year 7 and 8 students.
Oliver was scheduled to appear in person in August this year but given the recent restrictions in place, we were unable to have him present in person. Rather than cancel his booking, the Literacy team thought this would be a nice treat for the students given the lengthy lockdown they had to endure. Oliver was a lot of fun, entertaining students with his thoughts on creative writing, how he finds and develops his ideas, highlights of his journey to becoming an author and his significant sneaker collection.
Students were able to engage in a Q & A session afterwards, with Oliver awarding copies of his latest novel, Brain Freeze, to lucky winners, Brandon 7E3 and Jason 8H2 for their participation.
