Kings Park Campus Principal Message

Campus Principal Report - Kings Park, Term 4

There is a genuine excitement and gratitude to be back at school from both students and staff. After a long period of remote and continued concern over COVID, we are all very keen to return to normal school life.

Grade 6 to 7 Information Evening

The Grade 6 to Year 7 information evening on Thursday night was offered on November 9 this year online in English for KP and Sydenham, also in African, Burmese and Vietnamese.

Our host and panellist set up for the evening ensured all families have their individual questions answered while delivering important information.

Remembrance Day, November 11

Our Remembrance Day commemoration was led by Russel Hunter with a moving statement about the significance of the day and John Breen played the Last Post (on trumpet!)  from the front office. Thank you to Russell and John for their work in preparing for the day and their willingness to lead us.

VEX Robotics Competition - Saturday November 27

Two teams from KP: Team VRC: Taylan, Jacob, Belsine, and Jasmin and Team IQ: Mason and Brian, and one team from Sydenham, Stephanie and Alana, represented the College at this competition at Whittlesea Secondary College.

All three teams made the finals, with the KP VRC team finishing 5th, the KP IQ team finishing 6th and the Syd VRC team winning the Design Award for their Engineering Notebook. Considering this was the first opportunity for a ‘face-to-face’ competition and the limited time the teams had to design and build their robots, the students did very well!

Thanks to Mr Breen and Mr Stirkul for organising the teams and supporting their involvement. All students competed strongly and had a great time!

Year 10s Last Day at Kings Park

On Friday November 26 we celebrated our last day with Year 10s. Mr Arora prepared wonderful butter chicken for all the year 10 students to enjoy for lunch.

The Delahey Leaders came and introduced themselves to the students in an informal assembly during Period 3. An exhibition staff vs students basketball match was on during recess. At an assembly during period 4, a slideshow was played with pictures of these students' journey from their time with us starting in year 7.

The students were informed how strong their connection to KP will continue, even though they are at Delahey, through our message that we are still with you and will continue to see you and work with you.

Year 6 to 7 Orientation Day

On December 7 we welcome our 2022 Year 7s to our campus, marking the beginning of their journey through Copperfield. We look forward to meeting them all and hoping that they have a successful day and begin their secondary school life with confidence and aspiration.

Step-Up Program

From December 8 until December 14, all year 7 to 9 students will be involved in a step-up program where they will be introduced to their classes for 2022 and where possible meet their teachers for 2022. This is a longer program that previously and intends to prepare students for their next year of school in 2022 before they go on holidays.

Awards Ceremony

A final Campus assembly will take place from 1pm to 3pm on December 10. This is a celebration of the end of what has been quite a tumultuous year, and we look forward to congratulating students who receive academic awards for their exemplary performances.

We invite any community members to join in the ceremony if they are able.

Staffing Update

A new person in maintenance, Matt Huggins comes to us with an impressive range of skills from his previous career as a boilermaker.

We farewelled Jane Symons at the start of the term and  will do so formally for her retirement at the end of  the year.

For maternity leave this term Amanda Nguyen and Mary Miller have taken leave.

We have had two beginning teachers come through our College this term to work with our students and learn from our staff.

Mr Mark Nugent and Mr Lance Petherick
