Student Leadership

SRC

SRC this year, has been a challenge that has put a hold on SRC being able to reach their full potential to help make the school a better place for students. With this in mind, we tried to make the online experience for a second time, the best we could, through activities throughout the meetings to create a social space for students to feel like they are not alone.

We said our final goodbyes to the Year 12's of 2021 and wished them the best of luck for the years to come and introduced the new SRC team that will be able to make a difference to the school in 2022.

As President this year I have seen many students rise with their confidence and leadership skills. There will be many leaders within the 2021 group that will make a difference to the school in the future.

Each and every person that came to the SRC meetings have been able to develop new skills to use in the outside world and I can’t wait to see what everyone does in the years to come.

I want to say a big thank you to the SRC executive team for 2021 for the help and support throughout this year. Thank you to Ms Lewis for all the support and encouragement that you bring to the SRC and the skills you have been able to teach us as a group.

Thank you

Olivia Bedford,

SRC President 2021

Middle Years Captains Report

Us Middle Years Captains have had a good start to term 4.

In week 2 we ran our second Middle Years Council for the year. It's quite hard to communicate with our peers online but it was nice to hear their feedback during this meeting. We are looking forward to our second and first in-person Middle Years Council meeting towards the end of term.

Last Tuesday, the 27th of October, we all got to speak at the welcome back assembly for year 7 and 8. It was nice to see everyone, even though it was online.

While we are sad that the majority of us will be leaving Middle Years in just a couple of weeks and heading into later years, we are looking forward to passing the Middle Years Captain role onto four other young, capable people.

We are all looking forward to the long, overdue return to full time school next Monday.

Snowy River Campus Student Report

In term 3 Wantirna College was lucky enough to have four Year 9 students attend the School for Student Leadership - Snowy River Campus.

Snowy was an amazing experience for everyone. Even though it was cut short due to covid we still managed to go canoeing, surfing, mountain bike riding and completed an expedition. We all made amazing friends and learnt so much about ourselves along the way. We learnt about empathy, leadership, respectful relationships, resilience, identity and so much more. We set goals for ourselves and that really helped us all to grow as we were there.

I chose to come to Snowy as I wanted to have new experiences, meet new people and make lots of memories. In the first week of being there I did all of that and so much more. I learnt about myself, made lifelong friends and so many memories.
