Science Competitions
This year, we still managed to get some national and international science competition quizzes in.
The Big Science Competition was held in the first semester, and we had 47 students taking part across year 7 to 10. Between them, they achieved 7 High Distinctions, 6 Distinctions, 13 Credits and 21 Participation Awards.
The International Chemistry Quiz and the Science Olympiad were held in the second semester.
In the International Chemistry Quiz, we had 14 participants from years 9 to 12. For our year 9 students, they achieved a credit and participation award, for the year 10 students they achieved participation awards. The year 11s achieved 1 high distinction, 3 distinctions, 1 credit and 2 participations. The year 12s had one high distinction and 2 distinctions.
The outstanding results were that, for the year 11 students, the average score was 17.7, compared to a state average of 15.6 and national average of 15.0.
The year 12 students had an average score of 24.0, compared to a state average of 17.0 and a national average of 14.6. With one student scoring 28 out of 30.
For the Science Olympiads, the students achieved 2 credits and 1 participation award.
Congratulations to all the students who entered this year and I look forward to you taking part again in 2022. For those who are headed off to tertiary education, all the best!
