From the Classroom...

Room 15

A wonderful start to 2020 in Room 15...

We have had a fantastic and successful start to the 2020 year in Room 15.

Students are already showing some fantastic initiative and organisational skills- an important aspect of being a senior member of the school. The students are extremely excited for the upcoming production... perhaps we might even have some future stars amongst us.

School sports is another event that the 5/6s are becoming eager about, with our newly elected sports captains Dusty M and Darcy B putting their leadership into full swing.

Check out how neat our we have been lining up at the end of lunch and recess every day!

We have been developing some class values, which revolve around having a positive mindset, not comparing yourself to others and giving everything a red hot go! Addy has even been kind enough do write up a 'Quote of the day' each morning.

"If you can't do it yet, don't give up."

Literacy

During Literacy in Term One, Room 15 have been working on writing recounts and including figurative language, to make our writing more exciting. We have also been working on up-levelling our nouns, adjectives and verbs, as well developing our understanding of them a little more.

We have been trying to do some 7 steps activities each day, including a range of sizzling starts and working on our tightening tension to describe our 6 senses (see, hear, smell, touch, taste and emotions).

We are looking forward to moving onto narrative writing this week and then onto poetry later in the term.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we have done precise place value, amazing addition, splendid subtraction, magnificent multiplication and the dreaded division.

For our warm ups, we have been doing a Guess the Time game, Neighbours, Lattice game and the Ultimate Time Tables Challenge.

In conclusion, we are looking forward to a great year ahead in Numeracy and making sure we all have a positive mindset.

Integrated Studies

In Intergrated Studies, we have been Setting up for Success, doing Team Time and will soon be starting our ANZAC topic.

We have been Setting up for Success by creating classroom agreements and personal goals. We have also been getting all our required books out at the start of each day.

Team Time is where we pair up with different 5/6 classes, and we work on our teamwork by doing different challenges, and fun activities that require teamwork.

We are extremely excited for our ANZAC unit, where we will have our ANZAC ceremony and learn about ANZAC history. Also, we have a exhausting 20km bike ride, which will be hard but fun.

Specialist

For P.E. we have been practicing skills for school sports and also getting along.

In Performing Arts, we are working on getting out of our comfort zone to get ready for the school's production- Aladdin.

In Korean, we have been learning about the DMZ- de-militarised  zone.

Throughout our Visual Arts sessions, we have been focusing on Self-portraits and learning skills like continuous line drawing, stippling and drawing with measurements.
