From the Sick Bay

New Policies and Procedures

New policies and procedures are coming into place as of next year in regards to First Aid. A few policies which will be reinforced as of the beginning of next year include:

Medication

To enable storage and administration of medication at school, parents/caregivers must fill out a Medication Authorisation form. These forms can be downloaded via this link https://education.vic.gov.au/Documents/school/principals/health/medicationauthorityform.doc

Alternatively copies of this form will be held at the school office for your convenience.

Remember all medication and authorisation forms MUST BE VALID/IN DATE, otherwise school staff can not administer medication and a parent/carer must be called to come and administer medication for their child.

Reminders will be sent home with your child when the expiry date is nearing.

Medication MUST be brought in to school by parent/caregiver and in its original packaging

Asthma / Allergies / Anaphylaxis

Students who have asthma, allergies and/or anaphylaxis require an additional Action Plan. These action plans can be downloaded and printed here

https://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/spag/health/Pages/supportplanning.aspx

Additionally hard copies can be obtained from the school office or from your GP.

Please note these Action plans are compulsory to enable medication in (relation to these specific conditions) to be stored and administered at school. These plans are only valid for 12 months and must be renewed prior to expiry to ensure continued administration in the First Aid room.

Sentral

As of the beginning of next year Sentral will be the main system of documentation for students visiting sick bay.

What will this look like?

Parents/carers will receive a Sentral notification when their children have visited sick bay. Details of the incident and First Aid provided will be included on the message.

Head injuries- parents/carers will receive a Sentral notification to inform them their child has had a knock to the head. This will be in place of the courtesy call policy we have currently been following. Please note- all serious or concerning injuries will be followed up with a phone call to parents/carers. Sentral notification messages will be limited to minor/ treatable injuries and illnesses.
