Year 6 Encounter to Canberra and Sydney, May 2019.
Canberra/Sydney 2019
Our Canberra Encounter was a great success! We were extremely fortunate with beautiful Autumn weather and our students were brilliant. I received many compliments from members of the public on how well behaved our students are, and they certainly looked resplendent in the John Wollaston winter uniform. A highlight for me was Daniel Bydder presenting the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), with the cookbook Daniel and his family have published. The Governor-General presented Daniel with a special medallion in return. To live in a country where this act of kindness can occur, along with playing on the roof of our Parliament House, sitting in the old House of Representatives and laying a wreath at the Australian War Memorial, really is cause for gratitude.
Principal, Anne Ford, was a most welcome visitor on the Thursday in Sydney joining us on our visit to the Opera House and Taronga Zoo. We greatly appreciate our staff for giving up their own time to assist on this Tour. Darcy Gebbitis, Brady Morris, Katherine Stevens, Mel Fowler and Fiona Shand all combined to make this wonderful Encounter experience possible. Thank you to our Year 6 parents for trusting us to take care of your children for the week.

We greatly appreciated receiving this message from Nicky and Andrew Prothero upon our return:
Good Morning Everyone,
We are writing to you all to say thank you for giving our children such fantastic opportunities during their school years. Jaxon had an awesome time in Canberra/Sydney and knowing that you all cared for him like we would made the trip so much easier as parents.
Thank you for making a fuss on his birthday and for allowing him to call us to say Happy Birthday!
This trip not only teaches them about our country but it teaches them resilience and responsibility.
So thanks again to all for making this happen. We really appreciate it. Have a great day
Kind Regards, Nicky & Andrew Prothero
Junior DaleFest
This year, John Wollaston are hosting the Junior Dale Fest concert and I look forward to my role as MC for this event on Wednesday 12 June. A number of school choirs in the local area will come together to showcase their talents. Parents are invited to watch the performances starting at 10:00am in the BDISC, with a gold coin donation to cover the associated costs. The John Wollaston Junior Choir look forward to entertaining you.
IPSHA Ecumenical Service
Earlier this week, 16 School Captains attended the Independent Primary Schools Heads Association (IPSHA) Ecumenical Service at Penrhos College. The theme for the morning was gratitude, with our students meeting many others from a number of Independent Schools, as far away as Bunbury Cathedral College and those closer to home, such as Wesley College. IPSHA provides so many excellent opportunities for our students to connect with other schools in sporting and cultural events. This service enabled each school to come together as members of the Christian faith and focus on gratitude. Many Independent Schools share a Positive Psychology focus similar to our program at John Wollaston and to discover this was most pleasing and confirmation of our strong approach to pastoral care.
