Year 6 Encounter - Canberra

The Year 6 Encounter to Canberra was a great trip for all involved. Last Thursday, the final day of their travels, I met the students and staff at the Sydney Opera House before spending the afternoon with them at Taronga Zoo. Whilst everyone was tired, the Zoo was an enjoyable and relaxing way to finish their Encounter. I joined Brady Morris's group and we saw the reptiles, tigers, lions, elephants, giraffes, seals, meer cats, penguins, otters, fish and Australian mammals.  It was impossible to see every exhibit in an afternoon. What were their favourites?  Snakes and the large cats. As I have come to expect of our students they were respectful, engaging and a pleasure to be around. The staff spoke glowingly about the caring and collegial nature of the children which augurs well for their final months in the Primary.

Thank you to Wayne Revitt, Fiona Shand,  Katherine Stevens, Darcy Gebbetis, Brady Morris, Mel Fowler, Margaret Bulsing and Nicole Collis who accompanied the students and ensured they had a wonderful and memorable experience.

JWACS 30 Commemorative Photograph

Monday's aerial photo shoot capturing students and staff in the configuration of JWACS 30 was executed without a hitch in beautiful sunshine. We were fascinated by the three drones circling above us taking a range of images as we were commanded by a Photo Hendricks staffer, standing on a high ladder, to variously look up, wave, stand still and finally walk backwards out of the JWACS 30. This was no mean feat given we had Little Wollies and Kindergarten children assembled next to Secondary students. The mood was upbeat and as a parent of a Little Wolly exclaimed to me prior to the shoot, "I had to bring my child this morning to be part of history. What's more, in 10 years' time, he will still be at John Wollaston and can participate in the next anniversary photo!" I look forward to sharing the images with the school community when they become available.

Hot off the press our drone video capturing the moment has arrived....

Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy AO to visit

I am looking forward to welcoming Archbishop Kay back to John Wollaston next Wednesday as part of our Bishop-in-Residence Program. Last at the School leading our 30th Anniversary Easter Service, Archbishop will have a full day commencing with Staff Reflection before school, followed by Chapel Services for various age groups, a meeting with student leaders and classroom visits. As a former School Chaplain, I'm sure Archbishop will enjoy this pause in her very busy schedule to spend time with our students. We are very fortunate to have her visit.

With good wishes for a relaxing long weekend.
