From The Classroom

Care for the Kids - Salvation Army Incursion

This term, Team 5/6 have been learning about the concept of Social Justice through our unit 'Care for the Kids'. On Monday 27th August 2019, we had an incursion from The Salvation Army to reinforce some of the key learning happening in the classroom. They spoke to the students about community, caring and ways in which everyone can help. Students participated in an activity that involved them standing in a circle in a small group and passing a yarn of wool to each other creating a web like shape. The instructors asked individual students to tug on their piece of wool and see who could feel pull. This was to demonstrate the connectedness in a community and how one person can positively affect others. We wrapped up the session by talking about ways in which to help including donations, fundraising and volunteering. Students were left with a greater understanding of what aid agencies do to help those in need and how they themselves can make a difference.
