Jindabyne Camp

Jindabyne Update 2020

Dear Killara Families,

I am writing to inform you that our School leadership team have decided to postpone the 2020 Jindabyne Camp, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

This is purely a risk management decision. It is not specifically related to any student. Based on current information, there are no confirmed cases in the Killara High School student cohort or family members.

We have come to this decision after significant and detailed consideration. It has not been taken lightly.

The following factors have informed our decision:

- long periods in closed spaces on bus trips and in cabins

- distance from large hospitals

- incubation periods

- prevalence of COVID-19 in Northern Sydney

- mental health and wellbeing of all students

- parental concerns

- complications and complexities involved in returning to Sydney if camp needed to be ended early

These factors make the camp environment different from normal school attendance and operations. We are acting with caution by taking a pro-active approach to prioritise the wellbeing of all students and staff.

Therefore, Year 11 students are advised that classes will run as normal in Week 7. We are investigating alternatives and will be in touch with further information.

We very much acknowledge the disappointment this decision will bring, but thank you for your understanding.  We ask that you work with us to help alleviate the disappointment that may be felt by students and reinforce a positive and calm message about this situation.

We look forward to a positive week of learning in class next week.

Yours sincerely,

Robin Chand
