KSP Workshop

Visual Literacy Workshop

On Monday 2 March, Killara High School once again hosted a selection of talented students from our neighbouring primary schools as a part of our ongoing Killara Schools Partnership initiative.  This year, we invited some Year 5 students into the library to engage in a hands-on lesson in Visual Literacy.

Students from Gordon East, Killara, Lindfield, Lindfield East and Roseville Public Schools learnt about various visual techniques used in picture books, and how these techniques enhanced the meaning in the texts.  The students then formed groups and used these visual techniques to create a persuasive iMovie trailer to promote a particular picture book to the rest of their school.  The students were very creative; using fabulous acting, drawings, photos and abstract images to create their ‘movie’ trailers.  Students then took their trailers away on a USB to share them with the rest of their school.

Led by Mrs Chami and Ms Dixon, some of us from Year 9, helped to guide each group of students through the project. We helped and supported our younger visitors, although they were more than up to the task and worked mostly independently. We all had a wonderful time.
