Memory
I have always been fascinated by memory. I always wonder about the things we remember and how we remember them. At our PD this week, Misty Campos was talking about the 10-24-7 strategy. When she asked us about it, I immediately went blank. What strategy? Fortunately, my partner was able to recall this strategy. Dive into something for 10 minutes. Revisit it within 24 hours. Produce something within 7 days. After the PD, I decided to dive more deeply into memory.
It turns out we have two types of memory. The first is our spacial/experiential memory. When we think about our students, we often use this type of memory. We picture our classrooms or recall experiences with students and that helps us remember. The second type of memory is rote memory. This is the type of memory where we have to practice to recall information. Think about when we learned our times tables. We practiced with flashcards time and time again so that we could recall them. 10-24-7 is a great strategy for our rote memory.
