Friday lunch orders

Our kitchen garden program has now been running for six successful years.  Our students, staff and volunteers have been involved in growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing organic, seasonal and delicious food during this time.

Our Friday lunch order process of ordering in pre-prepared food does not, on the whole, reflect our school's values of nutritional fresh food and sustainability.  With this in mind, we will be making some changes to the Friday lunch order menu.  From term four, our school will no longer stock the chicken flavoured noodles packaged in styrofoam  containers and dim sims.  These two items will be replaced by spaghetti bolognaise and chicken strip salad wraps.  The spaghetti bolognaise and wraps will contain significantly less artificial colours, flavours, additives and preservatives and will be prepared by Mrs Cosgriff and our wonderful volunteers at school.  The new menu items will also contain more nutrients for our students and will be sustainably packaged to keep our waste to a minimum.

Due to the extra work involved in preparing this homestyle food, the cut off time for Friday lunch orders will be Tuesdays at 9.00am (a day earlier than the current cut off time of 9.00am on Wednesdays).  Please mark this in your calendars now as this change will take place in term four week two.

Café 1739

Term four opening hours:

Mondays: 8.00-8.45 (staff orders only) and 8.45-10.00 for the school community with takeaway orders only from 9.45. The café will also be open on Monday afternoons from 2.45 until 3.35 for the school community with takeaway orders only due to the Central Highlands Library being in attendance. If the weather is mild, we will open the roller doors for customers to sit on the silver benches in the undercover area; in this instance you do not need to provide a takeaway cup.

Thursdays: 8.00-8.45 (staff orders only) and 8.45-10.00 for the school community with takeaway orders only from 9.45. The café will also be open on Thursday afternoons from 2.30 until 3.35 for the school community with takeaway orders only from 3.20.

Fridays: 8.00-8.45 (staff orders only) and 8.45 until 9.30 for the school community with takeaway orders only from 9.15.

Do I need to provide my own spill proof, takeaway cup? Yes, we will not be providing single use, disposable takeaway cups due to our commitment to reducing our waste. If you are dining in the café or sitting on the silver benches outside the roller door we will provide all crockery and cutlery.

Can I pay by cash? Absolutely, or you can purchase a five or ten beverage card from the office.

Can I buy food from Café 1739? Yes, from Term four, week two onwards.  We will stock some delicious treats provided by Every Little Crumb, a local Ballarat business.

Can I volunteer at Café 1739? Yes, please contact Mrs Cosgriff in the Café for further information.
