Remote Learning Update

We have seen some fantastic work from our students on Seesaw this week, from STEM Maze Challenges to Hybrid Animal Drawings to fantastic Maths Activities and Amazing Writing. As we have noticed that the enthusiasm for remote learning has decreased across the school, our teaching teams are hard at work developing learning tasks that will re-engage students during this challenging lockdown #6. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or any member of the Principal Team if you need any further support with your child’s remote learning and/or wellbeing.

Family Wellbeing Check-In Activity

Recently we attended a session with the CEO of Headspace, Kirsten Douglas. Her presentation was fantastic and she provided us with a number of resources to support the wellbeing of members of our school community. Each week we will provide a new resource for families to try at home. This week we have included 20 ways to lean in to a conversation - with 20 sentence starters that can assist you with reaching out to members of your family who may be struggling during this latest lockdown period.

Susan McLean Cyber Safety Session for Parent and Carers

On Tuesday evening Susan McLean conducted an information session for our parents and carers (34 were in attendance). The presentation was brilliant! Susan is very blunt with her delivery, however it is so important for us as parents to know the frightening statistics to be able to talk to our children and keep them safe:

  • Snapchat is a key app where there is a lot of online grooming.
  • The age of the offenders are always under 30.
  • 98% of victims are under 13.
  • 90% of the offenders are NOT known to the child in real life.
  • Over the past 2 years there has been a 600% increase in criminal activity online in Australia.
  • Children as young as Year 3 have shared naked photos (reasons - as a joke, to gain popularity, grooming).

The biggest take away from the presentation is that keeping our children safe online is a whole community approach. 90% of all online issues happen outside of school, however these issues then flow into the school day.

Any CNPS parents or carers wanting more information on keeping your child safe online can access Susan’s series of videos for parents on her website.

It’s OK To Be Me - Wear It Purple Day - Friday 27 August

The CNPS community is known as a very inclusive school for students, staff and parents/carers who identify as LGBTQIA+. Next Friday 27 August is Wear It Purple Day.  Wear it Purple Day 2021’s theme is focused on the important and necessary conversations we have in our daily life; that centre around sexual orientation and gender identity. It aims to remind people that the issues we reflect on Wear It Purple Day should not only be considered on that particular day… but every day.

At CNPS we will be celebrating It’s OK to Be Me Day on Friday 27 of August. We are encouraging our students to wear purple or any colour of the rainbow and post a picture to Seesaw (with parent/carer consent). We will also be running a Whole School Zoom Disco at 2:00pm.

Rachel Corben (She/Her) is inviting you to attend  Whole School Zoom Disco - It's OK To Be Me Day 😊

Petition for Further Funding for our Buildings and Grounds

Ellen Sandell, the Greens State MP for Melbourne, has begun advocating on behalf of our school to secure significant infrastructure funding for our beautiful school buildings and grounds.

As part of this campaign, Ellen has arranged a petition calling on the Government to fund important upgrades, which include fire alarms for each building, playground equipment, fixing of trip hazards due to tree roots, air conditioning in the main building, sewage pipe replacement and new fencing.

This petition has gone live and you can find it here.

We strongly encourage our parent community, along with friends, family members and supporters to sign this petition. The more signatures we get, the greater the impact.

In addition, the school recently applied, under two separate grant streams for funding, to upgrade the junior toilets and apply acoustic treatment to walls and ceilings throughout the school. These closed on 6 August and we should know by the end of the year if our submissions have been successful.

2022 Foundation Enrolments

A reminder to all our CNPS families that we have sent out the first round of enrolment letters of offer for Foundation in 2022. If you have not yet completed an expression of interest form for your child to commence Foundation next year, please do so as soon as possible.

2021 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents/caregivers/guardians (previously known as the Parent Opinion Survey). It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

Approximately 30 percent of parents have been invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 19th July to Friday 3rd September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

Have a great week and sending positive vibes from the Principal Team
