Digital Safety and STEM

@ St Louis

As we head back into another lockdown, we know our students might be relying on devices and online gaming in order to remain connected. We have previously shared with you the excellent website https://www.commonsensemedia.org/.

One of the key features of this resource is that it considers children, parents, and educators. The snapshot below shows some of the content available to families including a range of 'Parent's Ultimate Guides' to popular apps and games.

eSafety have a range of upcoming webinars available to parents, exploring popular social media apps. Just click on the picture below to head to the sign-up page.

We hope you find what we share informative and helpful. Please feel free to send over any other helpful resources or articles you find connected to digital safety to me at twood@stlouisaspendale.com

During our time together with Year 6 in STEM, we were able to make a start on our OzHarvest cooking program.

All of our students discussed ways in which we might educate others on what food waste is, how we can act as changemakers, and actions we can take to reduce our own wastage. Once we shared our understanding of this, we came together to create fruit skewers with natural yoghurt (I say yogh-urt, you say yo-ghurt :-)).

The children demonstrated amazing control when using knives to cut different fruits, and managed to minimise their food waste by demolishing all of the kebabs. We then took the scraps and skins to the garden where they will be used in composting and for our worm farm.

Thanks to those parents in year 6 who have volunteered to help with future cooking sessions, hopefully, we will be able to have you on-site soon. If you would be interested in helping out during one Monday in Term 3, please feel free to email me twood@stlouisaspendale.com
