Join us to applaud our over-achieving alumni
Regardless of where our former students and alumni are, they have continuously proven to reach new heights, taking the name of our school far and beyond. By overcoming obstacles and ticking off goals of their own, they are a testament to how pivotal our school's values are to success. Read how Ashleigh McConnell, Sara Blicavs and Kacey Pike uphold Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Endeavour.
Two of our former students, Ashleigh McConnell and Sara Blicavs, represented Australia at the 2020 Paralympics and 2020 Olympics respectively.
On Day 6 of the Paralympic swimming finals, former student, Ashleigh McConnell along with three of her teammates grabbed a silver medal for Australia for their stellar performance in the 4×100 freestyle relay event.
Ashleigh McConnell, who is limb-deficient shone as she swam the anchor leg showing the Sunbury community that resilience can take you as far as a silver medal at the Paralympics! This is not the first time Ashleigh has filled us with pride. At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, she won a gold medal claiming herself a place at the 2020 Paralympics as a finisher.
If you watched the Australian Women’s National Basketball team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which concluded on 8 August 2021, you might have noticed a familiar face scoring hoops for the 12-strong Opals. It’s Sara Blicavs, a previous student of Sunbury College! Sara’s addition to the team’s roster was a last-minute decision but one that definitely brought good news to her parents and the entire Sunbury community.
It’s clear where Sara gets it from, both her parents have been former Olympians representing the country as basketballers. Reaching the Olympic stage is a big feat in itself, and when coupled with the team’s quarterfinal qualifications, it made for a big celebration for the Sunbury Community.
Despite being defeated by the USA, Sara and her team have done us proud! Sara currently plays for Southside Flyers, a professional basketball club based in Dandenong.
Our 2015 alumni Kacey Pike is now a fully qualified Early Childhood and Primary School Teacher! Upon graduating from Sunbury College, Kacey ventured onto a gap year as she moved interstate after which she took on the challenge of certifying herself as a Teacher. Today, Kacey teaches Year 3 students and she's loving it!
These stories show that there are no bounds to where Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Endeavour can take you.
