Wellbeing

What is Connect Us?

ConnectUs is an online service connecting young people (aged 10 - 25years) to organisations and services in the Maroondah, Knox and Yarra Ranges region, including:

  • health and wellbeing support
  • community groups and agencies
  • recreation options
  • and education programs

Staying positive

While it might feel like we don’t have control of current events, it's important to remember that we can do many things to feel empowered and enabled. Find opportunities to share positive and hopeful stories with others, generate positive emotions by sharing memories, and show acts of kindness.

Staying connected The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic highlights the importance of community and social connections in improving our health and wellbeing.

Connect with friends and family

  • Staying connected with friends and family at this time can reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. For example, regular phone or video calls.
  • For older Australians, now might be the time to embrace technology. Younger family members can help you get set up and guide you through the process. Give it a go!
  • If you are more comfortable with the phone, call friends and family for regular catch-ups. You could even write notes or letters.

Call for support

If you are feeling less connected as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19) you can call the Coronavirus Hotline (1800 675 398) and press 3. You will be connected to a volunteer from the Australian Red Cross who can link you with local supports.

It’s time to celebrate LGBTQIA+ youth with Minus18’s Purple Pride Party!

It wouldn't be Wear it Purple Day without a Minus18 youth party, and we have a HUGE night of drag, music and competitions planned for you. We've made the decision to turn our in-person event into a digital one – but you know what? We can't wait!

Not only does this mean we avoid pesky restrictions and having a small number of attendees, it also means the whole Minus18 youth community can attend, no matter your location.

💜 We'll be broadcasting the whole event as we imagined it – every live act, drag performer and DJ – from University of Melbourne’s new Science Gallery. Live, in high quality video + sound, straight to your screen. 💜

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Date: Saturday 28 August 2021
  • Ages 12 to 19 ONLY
  • Time: 7pm - 10pm
  • Where: on Zoom - a link will be sent to you on the day of the event
  • Theme: Purple!
