From the Principal

Since our last newsletter we have welcomed students and staff back onsite at RSC,  but unfortunately it was short lived as we entered another lockdown! The energy students bring with each return in connecting with one another and their learning reinforces the importance of schools as significant social institutions and their role in providing a sense of community for one another. The contribution of all members of our learning community to building this collective good is so important.

Our priorities in each period of remote learning are to continue to progress students’ learning and ensure their connectedness to school and one another. The resilience of our school community in managing the challenges each time continues to be inspiring.  Please be aware that school activities and events are often in a state of constant flux and are dependent on the prevailing circumstances.

One of the challenges in periods of community lockdown often involve maintaining routines and especially physical activity. When young people participate in regular physical activity, it boosts their physical and mental health and improves academic performance.

Physical activity throughout the day also improves concentration, and the ability to retain information and solve problems. There are many benefits to being active and getting your move on, but suspect a lot of us aren’t moving enough, particularly while learning from home. 15 minutes 4 times a day is all it takes.

To help support your children to stay active while learning from home, families can access a range of free COVIDSafe ideas to stay active and games through  Get Active Victoria . Families should remember that whatever gets you moving, gets you active.

Congratulations Tarni Cavanagh VCE High Achiever.

The annual Premier’s VCE Awards recognises students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). In 2021, a total of 323 awards, including 23 Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Awards, recognised the exceptional dedication and hard work of 297 students during the 2020 VCE.

Our very own Tarni Cavanagh, who is currently completing Year 12, was one of these recipients. Tarni has been recognised for her outstanding achievement in Food Studies as one of the 5 top students in the state. We are all very proud of your achievement Tarni.

It was also pleasing to acknowledge and recognise the many students across years 7 to 10 on their achievements in semester 1. I encourage all students to strive to achieve their personal best and maximise their learning growth, whether that it is onsite or learning from home.
