Remote Learning Year 5

This term, Year 5 have been exploring the work of the famous Australian author Jackie French. Recently we analysed her texts, 'Drought' and 'Flood' that feature such incredible illustrations and rich vocabulary that work together to educate her readers of these fierce natural disasters.

In response to Jackie's texts, the Year 5s have used their 5 senses to immerse themselves into these settings to write detailed visualisations. Furthermore, the students have explored how illustrations can be symbolic of the natural disaster and the affects it has on those who experience them. Here are some samples of the amazing work the Year 5s have produced over the past week.

Before lockdown...

In the beginning of Term 3 the Year 5's studied the unit of Design and Technology. In this time we had to design our own device to hold an egg and drop it from a height of at least 3 metres. We were attempting to stop it from breaking. We created all different types of designs that were unique and awesome. On Thursday the 5th of August we tested them outside to see if they would work. Some worked and some didn't but it was still super fun to be together as a class and trial them. Some of the amazing designs included parachutes, safety boxes and even cool designs like shock absorbers. After all the fun we came back inside and started a reflection piece on the project to assess what worked and what didn't.

It was so much fun to spend time with our classmates and explore this project together!  Patrick J 5PE
