Rotary Club of Shepparton South - Kevin Jordan Award
We would like to congratulate Jay Boschetti (Year 11) on receiving the Rotary Club of Shepparton South, Kevin Jordan Award. Jay is in his second year of an School Based Traineeship in Agriculture.
School based traineeships are a lovely mix of school and work, four days of school and one day of work per week. Jay's training is conducted by Wodonga TAFE in the AG schools program on the DECA site in Shepparton, he then works for Hutton Family Holdings assisting with their cropping. Jay has a keen interest in improving farming using technology. Below is his speech to thank Rotary and the Jordan Family
"Good evening everyone,
My name is Jay Boschetti, I am currently completing year 11 at Greater Shepparton Secondary College. I am also enrolled at Wodonga Tafe in Shepparton, in my final year Cert 111 in Agriculture. I would like to say thank you to the South Shepparton Rotary Club in honouring the Kevin Jordan award. I would also like to say a special thank you, to Mrs Peg Jordan for this great opportunity as it will assist in my purchase of a drone and online courses. It would benefit my agricultural studies as I could use it to observe.
Agriculture drones have high tech cameras which provide aerial views through photos and videos. Drones can assist the farmer with GPS pinpoint accuracy. Using drone technology, benefits the environment and the farmer. You can observe specific areas instead of the whole crop which saves time & money. Farming isn’t easy, as farmers face many challenges such as weather, pests, biosecurity and prices. Technology in farming is changing, use of tractors with GPS to precision soil sampling. Farming technology introduces new and different ways to help the environment.
Farming isn’t driving tractors all day as some may think, I have learnt so much since I started my career in the agricultural industry. I enjoy the variation of my job, not knowing what I am going to do that day and I have built a strong relationship with the family I work with. I believe that farming is a great career and wish to encourage others to get involved in Agriculture. I wish to continue to work on farms, and one day manage my own.
Thank you everyone (and I hope you enjoy the rest of your night)"
