Grade 5 Visits
This week we have been visited by over 100 Grade 5 students from Catholic Primary Schools around Hobart who have participated in an SVC 'Taster Day'. This provides an opportunity for the young boys and girls to see and experience how high school operates and the opportunities that will be available to them, including those that are unique to SVC.
Each school heard from some courageous Year 7 students who spoke about their transition from Primary School to High School and our Year 10 Leaders at the end of their High School journey passed on valuable words of wisdom to the Grade 5s who will commence their own secondary journey in the coming years.
Students also got to participate in activities such as Rock Climbing, Origami, Sport, Art and Bottle Rockets (Science). A highlight of the day was spending time on county with our Aboriginal students who taught them about Tasmanian Aboriginal practices and living off the land.
Sincere thank you to all staff who have contributed to the organisation of these special visits and led activities, in particular Mr Mark Beck, Mrs Susie Allen, Mrs Caitlyn Tulk, Mr Steve Aitken, Mr Paul Dobbie, Mr Simon Ellis, Mrs Kay Scanlon, Mr Mark ‘Bushy’ Smith and Mrs Bridget Jenkins. I also thank our Grade 10 Leaders who have led school tours. We look forward to welcoming more schools next week.

Indigenous School Based Traineeship Opportunities
AFL SportsReady in partnership with ANZ and CBA have available exciting school based banking traineeship opportunities in Hobart and Glenorchy.
Please find below the flyers which provide the information on the traineeships. The traineeship is available for any current Year 10 Indigenous students with a plan to be moving into Year 11 in 2022. They will enable a young person to have two years of paid work experience by the time they complete Year 12, they will gain a formal nationally recognised qualification (equivalent to the current Certificate II in Business) and have some great work skills. The successful candidates will also get mentoring with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mentors.
