Mrs Louise Bennett, Manager
The providers of Uniform Shop Services have advised of a price increase affecting most items sold in the store. As the letter below describes it is the first significant increase in prices for five years.
Dear St Virgil's Community,
As a result of a recent review, I need to advise you of proposed adjustments to the retail prices of the uniforms and accessories sold through the St Virgil’s College Uniform Shop. This is the first review of retail prices that Midford has made in at least five years.
Over the last five years, Midford has mostly sheltered our retail partners and customers from price increases by absorbing fluctuating exchange rate costs. We accomplished this by renegotiating with manufacturers and creating efficiencies in our supply chain. In the past, as the Australian dollar always bounced back, we never thought to disrupt the stable prices we offered our customers and partners with price increases.
Unfortunately, over the past year our supply chain has been affected dramatically from COVID, irrespective of currency fluctuations. The costs have increased so sharply now that we are forced to raise our prices, the whole supply chain is affected from cost of materials, manufacturing, labour as well as transportation. These changes are not temporary, we are told that the increased costs are permanent. We are therefore left with no option then to pass on some of the increases to our partners and customers. This is a decision that was not made lightly and is necessary for Midford to remain competitive and at the forefront of school wear innovation and supply.
I have attached a list of items sold through the uniform shop with current and proposed prices listed. There are a total of 19 items that required a price increase, based on the manufacturing costings. On many items there is no change in price. If approved by the School, prices increases will take effect from the 1st of October 2021.
It is Midford’s commitment to continue to plan our business in a way that provides high quality clothing at a price that offers great value for money to our customers. We will continually monitor our supply chain for future benefits in terms of cost to our customers.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank St Virgil’s for your continued support of Midford and we look forward to providing quality school wear and service to the school community into the future.
Best regards,
Gary Georges
Director
