Bellbird Magazine

Artwork by Abby M. - Year 8

The Bellbird Magazine is out now!

At the beginning of Term 2 a group of students came together to establish a magazine team. The purpose of this was to create a product that would showcase the breadth of engaging student writing that occurs both in and outside of the classroom.

A range of poetry, short stories, interviews, speeches and creative non-fiction are included in this issue written by students from Year 7 through to Year 12. It is an excellent opportunity for these students to publish their writing and share their imagination, experiences and opinions with a broader audience.

I would like to acknowledge the following students for their hard work and dedication that went into their writing:

Year 7

Etain Cardno and Aimee Filan

Year 8

Students from the magazine team also came up with the idea to run a creative writing competition using the school motto of ‘Perseverance’ as the prompt. The English Faculty deliberated and the winners were announced at the recent Celebration Assembly. Congratulations to our third place author, Lily Arendse, who received a $20 Bookface gift card for their piece titled ‘Along the Way’, our second place author, Henry McGavin, who received a $25 Bookface gift card for their piece titled ‘A Weaponry Dance for Survival’ and the winner, Emeliana Kimber, received a $30 Bookface gift card for their piece titled ‘Noble Bird’.

A hard copy of the magazine can be found in each English classroom and the library. Students are also welcome to borrow the magazine as an eBook from the library’s Oliver platform (see Ms Klein for assistance). Parents and guardians can read a digital version of the magazine by accessing our website and clicking through to the link: https://bellbirdmagazine.my.canva.site/

Congratulations again to all students involved with our first issue! Stay tuned for more information about how you can contribute to the next one. If you are interested in joining the magazine team and being a part of brainstorming and assisting with upcoming issues please see Miss Jackson for more information.
