Year Advisers Report

Years 7, 9 & 11

Year 7 have had a settled start to Term 3. They are reminded of our Year 7 Key Actions as a year group:

Empathy, Teamwork, Resilience, Responsibility and Gratitude

Term 2 ended with a very positive dance unit assessment and Term 3 has begun with some key events in the calendar.

The dance unit in Semester 1 was a huge positive for the year group and all students thoroughly enjoyed developing their dance skills. The unit concluded with a highly anticipated dance assessment, with all students dressing up and getting into the theme of the dance extremely well. I would like to congratulate all students who received awards during the ceremony.

This term we have begun with some significant key events on the Gosford City Learning Community calendar. In Week 3 on Monday, Henry Kendall High School hosted the Gosford City Learning Community Awards. I would like to congratulate Ellie McLean, Mitchell McCracken and Etain Cardno for their awards. These three students were chosen due to their ongoing commitment to learning and being positive influences on the Year 7 community.

Furthermore, I would like to congratulate all the students who were involved in the music productions for both the Performing Arts Nights. The way you performed as a group and the skills on display, were very pleasing to see.

I couldn’t be prouder of Year 7’s achievements thus far to begin Term 3 and I encourage all students to continue to focus on their learning and behaviour working towards the end of this term.

I would also like to encourage all parents and carers to encourage their child to read my Year Adviser report that was written in the reporting period of Semester 1, if they have not done so already. I encourage all students to work towards the values presented within these comments.

It has been a pleasure working with Year 7 so far this term.

Year 7 Adviser

Welcome back to another wonderful term. This term, we’re excited about a number of Year 9 students who will be training to become Peer Support leaders for the Year 7 students of 2024. We had an incredible number of students indicate their interest in the STAR Peer Mentoring Program and while unfortunately we weren’t able to take everyone, we hope to see you all continue to support students around the school.

Week 2 saw our first Parent Teacher Night as Year 9 Advisers. It was lovely to see so many of our Year 9 families in attendance and we enjoyed seeing some familiar faces and meeting many parents we had not had the opportunity to meet before. It was a great opportunity to talk to parents and discuss how we can work together to best help their child and provide a positive school environment.

Congratulations and well done to the recent graduates of Top Blokes! We look forward to seeing your positive influence as top blokes around the school.

Well done to the students who performed at Performing Arts Night earlier this month. It was great to see you all take the stage and showcase your incredible talent. Also a massive thank you to the Year Nine performers who worked as ushers on both nights. It’s so great to see so many of you step up in a respectful manner.

We are looking forward to another great semester and many more opportunities for Year  to showcase their skills around the school.

Mel Bailey & Ashley Diterlizzi

Year 9 Adviser

Can you believe that we are already in the last term of Year 11, I certainly can’t. Time is flying by. Year 11 have had an extremely busy start to the term. From a number of assessment tasks, to work placement and to captain interviews and speeches.

During this term a significant number of students have been participating in their work placement for Hospitality, Primary Industries and Retail Services. These students are going out into the real world and working in a variety of establishment in their relevant industry for a week.

From all accounts, Year 11 have represented Henry Kendall High School proudly. A number of students have been offered jobs and even apprenticeships, some even on their first day. Congratulations to those students. I would also like to thank their teachers for their support and the endless paperwork Mrs Ofahengaue, Mrs Kostalas, Mr Grant, Ms Paine and Mrs McTeigue.

With Year 11 nearly finishing, it means that it is time for our new School Captains to be elected. On Thursday of Week 2, I had the great privilege along with Mr Backhouse and Miss Ellis to interview the prospective School Captains.

Iona Jeannot, Millie Potter, Utsav Sapkota, Amelia Stevens and Ava Trundle all interviewed extremely well and all shared similar values and future directions.

All 5 were successful in moving onto the next step… the speeches to both their peers and teachers. Thursday of Week 4, all 5 students delivered phenomenal speeches. From this point on I knew that it was going to be tough to choose a Captain and that we are going to have a fabulous leadership team for 2024. I am super pound of all 5 students for their courage and enthusiasm.

Congratulations to Ava Trundle and Utsav Sapkota for being elected School Captains for 2024 and congratulations to Amelia, Iona and Millie for being or Prefects for 2024.

There are a couple of upcoming events:

  • Wear it Purple Day: Friday 25 August
  • RUOK Day: Friday 8 September
  • Year 11 Preliminary Exams: Monday 11 September to Friday 22 September

Remember Year 11, Try your best, be kind to yourself and others and never forget:

“Self-belief is the secret to success”.
