Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Congratulations to all of our Sacramental candidates and their families on the major step in the children’s faith journeys taken last weekend. A very big “Thank you” to Fr Michael for his leadership of the Parish program and at the weekend ceremonies. Thank you too to our staff who attended to ensure the ceremonies went so smoothly.

YARRALIN COMMUNITY VISIT Our school is very much looking forward to an upcoming visit from children, staff and elders from the Yarralin community school in the Northern Territory. Jeremy Richardson’s sister Zoe is the principal of this school that is situated 700km south of Darwin on the Victoria River.  Zoe has organised for the group to have their first visit to Melbourne and between the brother and sister they have arranged for the group to travel out to Colac and spend the day at our school.

This is a fantastic opportunity for both groups of children to spend some time together and learn from each other. More information about this day is published elsewhere on today’s newsletter and will be in next week’s newsletter as arrangements are finalised.

SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY Our staff spent last Friday in a very productive workshop where we took some time to read, digest and discuss the new Victorian Curriculum for Maths. Teachers all took a turn to demonstrate their own approaches to Maths before their peers, which was not only very interesting but also very reassuring too, as all teachers received positive feedback on their work. The final part of the day was spent planning Term fours Maths based on the new curriculum and with a newly developed planning tool.

Thanks to Ms Sayhoune and Mrs Daffy for their work in planning last Friday’s activities and to Therese Hadden from the Diocesan Education Team who led much of the day.

CLASSROOM MOVES Mrs Doyle’s Grade one class have shifted rooms as of yesterday as we continue to re-shape the middle and junior areas of our school following the completion of our latest building project. Next, Miss Hayley’s Foundation class will be moving across the corridor into the room vacated by Mrs Doyle’s class. We are taking the opportunity to thoroughly clean and where necessary paint these classrooms as we go.

VIRTUAL TOUR The children may have mentioned the filming that was happening at school last Monday and Tuesday. The Diocese of Ballarat (DOBCEL) is supporting all schools to add a “Virtual Tour” to their websites. Ours has come up really well and will be uploaded to our website this week.

Well, maybe it worked last week so!!

“GO MATILDAS!”

Kids are invited to wear "Green and Gold" tomorrow!!
