Term 3 Week 4 - Friday 4th August
Well we have all settled back into the school routine for term 3. The preps are superstars picking up where they left off in term 2. Term 3 has already been a busy one so no doubt there will be some tired preppies. The Preps in both classes have begun computers. They have been learning to use the mouse and have started to do some simple maths games each Friday. This is a weekly lesson so they become more confident with logging on and off etc. It has proven a very popular maths lesson!
What we are learning:
Phonics (Little Learners Love Literacy)
We have begun our new sounds this week which are y and r .. We are still chanting “The letter is ____, the sound is ____”. It would be wonderful to continue this at home with the letters l and v. We have learn some new heart works which are she, he, we, to do and was. These are in addition to the other heart words These are The, My, the, my and I. We talk about when the upper case at the beginning is required. We are focussing on blending CVC words (constant, vowel, constant) each day. Letters and sounds we have learnt are m,a,s,p,f,b,h,t,i, c,o, n, d, l & v.
Writing:
In writing we have been working on our weekend recount and we have introduced the “4 w’s.” Who, What, Where and When We have been using these as a prompt for their recount writing and have been drawing our recounts on whiteboards, then some students are chosen to come up and talk about their weekend recount which also helps to support their public speaking and oral communication. We are also learning to make sentences by looking at a picture. We use who, when and where to form the sentence.
Reading:
We continue to have a weekly mentor text in reading. This fortnight we have continued to enjoy the nursery rhymes.. Each day we have a different focus, asking and answering questions, rhyming words, providing feedback and creating sentences using the words from our word wall. Both classes have been enjoying acting out the correct sequence of the nursery rhymes that we learn.
Leader In Me:
We have continuously been using 7 Habit languages when we are in class and out in the yard. Think win win is a great way to help resolve conflict with preppies both in and out of the classroom.
Inquiry
We have begun our new topic of living things and life cycles. We have looked at plans and brainstormed what they need to survive. We have planted snow peas seeds in soil and are watering each day. There is much excitement teach time they check how much their plant has grown.
Specialist Days:
Monday - Health
Tuesday - Art/Culture & Music
Wednesday- Art/Culture & PE
Friday - Auslan
Important reminders
*Please continue to check the blue pouches nightly, as we use these to send notices home.
* We have begun sending home one decodable book per student per week. Students can only borrow a book if they bring their blue satchel. Please see our compass post for more information.
* A number of children are coming to school without a jumper. Please be sure to pack a school jumper for your child when playing outside at recess and lunchtime.
* We are finding that some jumpers are being taken home with the wrong name on it. If you could please check your child's jumper to ensure it has their name on it, that would be fantastic!
*Please ensure that your child has a substantial lunch such as a sandwich/roll/wrap or thermos for example for lunch along with a snack (cracker/yoghurt) and fruit or vegetables.
*Daily we have a fruit break, we kindly ask that you please pack your child a piece of fruit or a vegetable to snack on during this time.
*Please have your child’s drink bottle filled with water only.
