Building Project Update

In May 2022, then Minister for Education and Deputy Premier James Merlino, joined our local member Jackson Taylor MP, to announce a funding commitment of $11.198 million dollars to build a replacement Gymnasium and Performing Arts classroom spaces, replacing our current Educational and Community Activity (ECA) Centre which was built 40 years ago.

Whilst I had been providing updates during last year, many of you are probably wondering where we are at with this project and whether the designs are close to being finalised and construction beginning. Disruption in the construction industry and rising costs have caused the delay, but fortunately we have now almost completed the design and development phase of this project, and that means we now have a very detailed floor plan, design and some rendered images that I can share with you here.

Now that we have a design on paper, you can begin to see what the building will look like and how it will function. Kosloff Architecture have not only delivered this project in a way that allows the spaces to be highly functional but they have also created an innovative and eye catching design that will transform the Amesbury Avenue entrance and view of the school. Landscaping surrounding the buildings will provide a visual highlight and I expect there new buildings to be as much a community hub with after hours use as it will be as an effective learning during the school day.

We have almost completed the design phases of the project and the next phase will involve the preparation of documents for the tender process. With luck, we may have a preferred builder selected by the end of the year with construction to begin in February. We are hopeful that the new Gymnasium and Performing Arts building will be open for use around the end of Term 1 in 2025!

Production – The Little Mermaid

Opening night for this year’s production was held last Wednesday and the feedback from the audience was that the production team (staff and students) had absolutely delivered another hit again this year! I will have more to say once the “season” has closed but I would encourage you, if you haven’t already bought tickets, then get to it, you wont want to miss out!!!
