Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

August 8th is the Feast Day of Australia’s only “official” Saint, St Mary McKillop. Mary McKillop established the Josephite order of nuns in Australia in response to a need she saw in the colony way back in the 1860s and 70s. My siblings and I were taught by the Josephite nuns at St Liborius in Eaglehawk on the outskirts of Bendigo in the 1970s. Sr Veronica was the Principal and Grade 6 teacher. I remember her as quite stern but usually also pretty fair. I got the “cuts” 4 times at primary school and I probably deserved it 3 out of those 4 times! - I still think I was a bit hard done by that time in Grade ONE!

Sr Veronica loved Mary McKillp’s motto: “Never see a need without doing something about it” (She probably thought I NEEDED the strap - so she did “something about it.”)

But it seriously is a motto that I have spoken to our students about for a long time. What can I do to be the difference in someone else’s day? What can I do about any need I see?

FIRST COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION This weekend many of our Grade 3 students will be Confirmed and receive the First Holy Communion at either the Saturday night Mass at

6:00 pm or at the 11:00am Mass on Sunday.

We will be taking these children up to the Church on Thursday so that they practise for this celebration.

We wish all of these children and their families the very best for a lovely weekend.

SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY Could all parents please note that our school will be closed THIS Friday August 11th in order that staff undergo further training. Staff will be spending the day acquainting ourselves with Victoria’s new Maths curriculum and reflection on our current practice.

GO MATILDAS!!!
