Principal
I am finding it hard to believe that we are already into week 5 of this term. As they say, time flies when you are having fun!! Our SEA program is well underway in years 2-6 with the Preps and year 1 to begin on 24 August. Please see our dates page for the confirmation of our Multicultural day celebration, with a range of activities planned and a special lunch on offer. More information to come. Our book week dress up day is Wednesday 23 August so plan ahead and avoid the mad dash to Spotlight!
ICAS
The ICAS assessments for students in Years 2-6 commenced today. These will be completed over the next few weeks,. We look forward to receiving the results in Term 4.
Parent Survey
You may have already seen the post on Compass regarding the Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey. This annual survey is provided by the Department of Education and is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All families are invited to participate in the survey which will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023.
The survey will be conducted online, takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey is available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Please see the Compass post for the link and further instructions, and if you would like any further information please contact Kate Nancarrow.
Prep Parents morning Tea
Following on from our successful year 1/2 parents morning tea, we would love the parents of our prep students to join us this Friday morning at 9:00am in the conference room. With our whole school review coming up, this is a great time to talk about all things Solway.
House Athletics
This Thursday our year 3-6 students will head out to Bill Sewart athletics track to take part in our House Athletics Carnival. The students have been practising the required skills during PE sessions and level sport and I’m told they are ready to go. Let’s hope the rain holds off and the temperature is up by a couple of degrees!
Reminder
If you are picking up students early from school they must be signed out at the office. We have a duty of care to know where students are at all times. If you are taking students early from sporting events or excursions, they must be signed out with the teacher in charge.
Working Bee
Our Term 3 working bee will be held on Saturday 19 August. If you can spare some time to lift a shovel or swing a rake it would be much appreciated. Please see attached notice on the Working Bee page.
Congratulations
Welcome to the world Penelope Guy (Poppy). Congratulations to Josh Guy and his wife Gen on the birth of their baby girl. By all accounts everyone is doing well and Charlie is enjoying his new role as big brother!
