Point Cook Road & Central Avenue Intersection Upgrade – Community Feedback

Dear stakeholder

I’m touching base to provide an update on the Point Cook Road and Central Avenue Intersection Upgrade, which is also considering a potential upgrade to Central Avenue between Point Cook Road and Skehan Boulevard.

As previously advised, Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) undertook community and business engagement between 13 March to 2 April 2023 to inform planning for the upgrade. More than 796 community and business surveys were completed, and more than 120 pieces of feedback were provided on our interactive map.

Feedback has helped us understand how people currently use the intersection as well as views on safety, traffic flow and what we should consider in our planning. We also heard how local businesses operate and use the intersection.

Key themes

Feedback highlighted strong support for an upgrade to improve safety, improve traffic flow and reduce travel times.

  • 95% of community respondents and 100% of business respondents support an upgrade of the Point Cook Road and Central Avenue roundabout
  • 88% of community respondents have concerns with the Point Cook Road and Central Avenue roundabout. When asked what concerns they have (multiple choice) the top responses were traffic flow (88%), safety (76%), road user behaviour (62%), difficulty crossing the road as a pedestrian (57%) and variability in travel time (58%)
  • 88% of community respondents rated the traffic flow through the Point Cook Road and Central Avenue intersection as very poor orpoor 10% as fair and 2% rating traffic flow as good
  • 74% of community survey respondents would support the Point Cook Road and Central Avenue roundabout being potentially converted to traffic lights
  • 90% of community respondents rated the current walking and cycling conditions at or near the Point Cook Road and Central Avenue intersection as very poor and poor, 7% fair and 3% very good or good.

I have attached a Consultation Summary Report for your reference.

Next steps

Feedback is being used to inform our planning and the development of a Business Case, which we anticipate will be completed later this year.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or would like to discuss.

Kind regards

Sarah Duncan – Head of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement
