Art & Technology

Food Technology / Food Studies

Welcome to all students who are starting a Semester 2, Food Technology/Food Studies as part of the core curriculum, or as an elective.

I am looking forward to seeing how students can  creatively apply their learning in the practical sessions.

Last semester students worked with both Mrs. Smith and Ms Matthews to learn about a variety of topics and presented some terrific products.

Year 12 students are well over ‘the hump’ and are entrenched in Unit 4 Outcome 1. The focus of Unit 4 is Food issues, challenges and futures.

Check out some of the great work students have been producing in the photos.

Year 11 student focus for this semester is Food makers – both in industry and the home.

Music Showcase

A music concert was held at the end of semester one to showcase a cross-section of Scoresby Secondary College’s young performing musicians including: students participating in the Year 7 Artist Development Program, a Year 9 and Year 10 performance ensembles and Year 11 and Year 12 VET music ensembles. Over the course of the semester the classroom and in music insturmental classes, students have been hard at work developing skills across a range of instruments including voice, guitar, bass and keyboard. In classroom music, students practiced and developed skills in small groups under the tutelage of music staff and practiced ensemble skills as a whole class group.

The music performance concert showcase enabled the Year 7 students to demonstrate their musical skills, with their performance including the piece ‘Yellow,’ by Coldplay. It has been wonderful to see the students keenly embrace a performance opportunity and work towards the goal of performing whilst demonstrating enthusiasm and budding talent.

The VET Music students have also been hard at work, developing their repertoire across jazz, contemporary and classical music, from such artists as Amy Winehouse, Gershwin, Herbie Hancock and Aerosmith to name a few. It has been inspiring to see the VET students collaborate, self-organise and constructively work towards their performance goals as demonstrated at the music showcase evening.

The evening also saw the sending off of our ever-talented vocal teacher and ensemble leader, Ms Amber Ferraro who has left us to perform and tour across Europe. However, we are very happy to welcome her replacement Cheryl Eastwood, whom has a wealth of performance and industry experience to share with Scoresby’s music students.

Enhancing Music Talent

Adam Du is a Year 8 student with extraordinary talent who was a proficient keyboard player upon entering the college last year in Year 7.  Our instrumental program caters for such students and draws on our partnerships to source the expertise to personalise the  students lessons so they can continue to build their skills. Throughout the semester Adam has undertaken instrumental lessons with a highly skilled instructor who performs and studies at The University of Melbourne. Should your child have specific needs required to participate in our instrumental program please make contact with our staff.
