The Pre-Prep excursion to the Nudgee Beach Environmental Educational Centre (NBEEC) proved to be an extraordinary day in an outdoor classroom.
The day started with a welcome to country and smoking ceremony with Elder Uncle Joe. Aunty Merle and the NBEEC Principal explained the significance of our shared role and responsibility for custodianship of this land, Mother Earth.
It was a stunning Winter’s day to learn through the natural elements of the beach. Continuing to share cultural knowledge, Uncle Joe guided us through the mangroves, looking for crabs, snails, pipis and challenged us to create a traditional hut with sticks. We used the soap bush to wash our hands before returning to the centre.
Taking the role of nature scientist, we were invited to participate in many activities back at the school. Our connection with nature seized as the children climbed trees, observed many animals, painted on bark and explored the environment with magnify glasses.
We learnt many Turrbul words throughout the day and finished with Uncle Joe sharing a story he co-authored, Karana the Story of the Father Emu, and performing the emu dance.
Our Prep students had a great morning at our first Bush School lesson, learning about animal habitats and what living things need. On our bush walk we were lucky enough to spot not one but three Wallabies and a Magpie. We can't wait to continue these outdoor adventures throughout Term 3!
As we are now in the colder months, there is a likely increase of respiratory illnesses in our community, including COVID-19, influenza (flu), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and many other viruses. The most common symptoms of respiratory viruses are a cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches (muscle or joint pain), feeling tired and fatigued, fever and chills, and/or loss of appetite. Flu vaccination is recommended for 6 months and older, and COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for 5 years and older. If your child has symptoms please keep them at home until symptoms are resolved.
On behalf of the Clayfield College Foundation, we express our sincere appreciation for our Clayfield family's generous support of our recent Annual Giving Day! The day showed the strength of our community, who came together to Shine a Light on the ongoing advancement of Clayfield College.
We are excited to share the following results from the day:
To celebrate, students in Prep to Year 12 within Campbell House and Henderson House will be invited to a Pizza Party during lunchtime on Thursday 3 August on Leopard Terrace. Students are still required to bring their own lunch on this day.
Please refer to the Sports News Section.
After many years, the staff are so happy to be hosting Grandparents’ Day once more on Friday 11 August. Our grandparents will be enjoying a morning tea, classroom visit and a special musical performance. Due to numbers, this event is specifically for our wonderful grandparents; however, if a grandparent is unable to attend, a special friend is more than welcome.
Please see the invitation below with the link to book (for catering purposes, please make sure you tick the box for Pre-Prep or Prep to Year 6). We look forward to seeing you there!
