Principal's Report

Carly Avery

Dear Parents/Guardians

It has been wonderful to be back at work this week following my long service leave. I am enjoying catching up with students and seeing their development over the last few weeks. It has also been a great reminder for me what a wonderful staff we have here at St. Joseph’s. I would like to thank all staff for the way in which they have worked together in my absence, particularly Michael Kearton for his leadership. To all staff who stepped up in various ways, a huge thank you.

A couple of reminders for next week:

  • Monday: This is a closure day, TheirCare will be open for the day. Staff will be visiting Sacred Heart in Yarrawonga with a focus on continuing to develop our pedagogy and knowledge. We thank Sacred Heart for welcoming us!
  • Tuesday: Feast of Mary MacKillop. There will be a mass at 9:30 am to which all are welcome, followed by a morning tea at school.

Lions Club Speeches

A huge congratulations to Jackson I and Cleaver G who represented St. Joseph’s on the weekend at the Lions Club Speeches. This level was competing against other local schools. It is a great achievement to deliver speeches to an unfamiliar audience and we are all proud of both of you!

Congratulations to Cleaver who will go on to the next level competing against other clubs in our area on Sunday 13th August.

Book Fair

Next week will be our annual Book Fair, which takes place in the office area. Today you will receive a flyer outlining books available for purchase and how to purchase. Please contact Jo for any further information.

Book Week

Book Week for this year will take place in week 7. The theme for 2023 is ‘Read, Grow, Inspire.’ Our Book Week Parade will take place Friday 25th August, 9:00 am. We invite all students to dress up as a book character or ready for a bedtime story.

NSIT Review

From Tuesday 15th- Thursday 17th August our National School Improvement Tool Review will take place. This is a curriculum review and a great opportunity to reflect on our work in this area. It is a very thorough process with external reviewers on site for three days. This will be an opportunity for us to reflect on what is working well for our students, our current areas of focus, and goal setting.

There is an opportunity for parents to be part of the conversation on Tuesday 15th from 2:30 pm. Please let me know if you are able to attend.

Playground

As you may be aware our new playground equipment is being installed this week. There is much excitement this week in anticipation!! Next week we will also have a new sandpit installed thanks to the Bendigo Bank and their Community Grants! A very generous donation.

I would like to thank Whitney and Michael for all their work in organising the clearing of the site and installation of the new playground and sandpit. I would also like to thank Trav Hunt and Adam Green for their assistance in removing equipment from the site.
