A Great New Playspace for our School !
After a playground audit last year and consultation with our students we recognised a need in our school playground for more spaces that encouraged creative play and for play spaces that weren’t solely dedicated to sports.
Throughout term 2, Pip, our super gardener, has been working hard on developing a new and exciting play space between Drayton Hall and B wing. The team working on this project has also included Graydon Dobson, Fiona Kirby, Sam Kirby and a number of students (particular thanks to Max V, Matthew E, Zarley M, Justin M). This area, (which is yet to be named) is designed to enhance multisensory engagement and will benefit the creativity, fine motor and social playing skills of our students.
Aspects of the play space include:
- Discovery pit - a large area filled with small pebbles that cover many different amazing treasures and artefacts! This allows students who enjoy digging and discovering the chance to spend their lunch time constructively.
- The Car / Marble track – students can race their cars down the track and find the winner. (It is important that we don’t stand on this!) This is an excellent opportunity for students who are at times shy to initiate play with other students. Bonding over the speed of the race and the excitement of a win is easy.
- The Mud Kitchen benches – Yes that’s right! MUD benches for fun, creative, muddy play developing fine motor skills.
- The Beyblade Arena – Beyblade battling has never looked as big as it will in our giant Arena!
- The Red Car – Imaginative trips are encouraged in our very own big red car.
We are very excited to announce that this will open next week! We will allocate different grade levels to this area for the first couple of weeks.
Monday – Year 4 – 6 students
Tuesday – Year 3 students
Wednesday – Year 2 students
Thursday – Year 1 students
Friday – Prep students
Thank you to Pip and Graydon for all of your hard work!
Great Victorian Bike Ride 2018
Your help needed please.......
If you own a business or know of someone who does and may be interested in sponsoring our
OOPS Great Victorian Bike Ride 2018 Riding tops please pass this on;
Old Orchard Primary School is once again riding high in the Great Victorian Bike Ride. This is our 5th successive year of proud participation. The last 4 years riders have been very grateful to be able to wear matching riding tops, which not only serves as a team feel, but also an extremely important identifier to all.
Approximately 25 riders will be completing the three day ride this year. All of the individual riders have paid for themselves to do the ride. We are soliciting sponsorships from local business for the riding tops that riders will wear for the three days.
The ride itself has thousands of cycles, volunteers and spectators; therefore your logo would be seen by thousands of people. In addition to having your logo on the tops we are willing to advertise your business in our school newsletter for a number of weeks at no additional charge.
Old Orchard Primary school will be able to supply you with a tax invoice for your sponsorship amount.
If your organisation would like to participate in this year’s event as a sponsor, please contact myself by the 10th August 2018.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Jacqui Fulton
