Writing
Students have been working hard to put their anthology together. Anthology is a collection of poems or pieces of writing. For the year 3-6 students, they have been writing three personal poems and a reflection on two different poems. We have used the book Jenny Angel by Margaret Wild to model some great poetry techniques such as similes. Students have done really well with their poems and using similes. Below is the paragraph used from Jenny Angel as a guide for students and followed by student work. We will publish some more over the coming weeks.
There flies Jenny Angel,
Swooping under the Harbour Bridge,
Soaring past tall pine trees,
Their branches etched like toothbrushes
Against the fading light.
There flies Tina,
Soaring over a city,
Swooping through the clouds.
The sea is a frozen lake from the frozen rain.
Below her the water glistens,
From the shiny ice.

There runs Kingston,
Galloping through the bush,
Gliding over a log,
The log was spikey like an echidna
in the darkness of the forest.
By Kingston in year 1.
Maths
We have been focusing on place value and will begin looking at time over the next few weeks. Place value is always a major focus as it provides the foundation of all mathematical concepts. Foundation students are looking at the numbers from 1-10 while other students are looking at 3 digit numbers, 4 digits numbers, prime numbers, etc.
