Outdoor Education

Student Report:

Outdoor Education has begin with a bang in 2018. We had an early morning departure and once we dealt with an unexpected tyre puncture on our mini bus, we arrived on time for our exciting snorkelling activity. We suited up and donned our weight belts, snorkels and flippers. We head over to the beach where we learnt the skills of snorkelling, split up into 3 groups and learnt how to breathe with the snorkels and swim with the flippers. We walked backwards into the water and began snorkelling in the water. We saw pufferfish, other small fish, and even a huge stingray. We then got out of the water and played some games on the sand. We then snorkelled to the pier and jumped of it into the water a few times. We walked back to where our clothes were and had a shower and changed into our clothes. We then had lunch in the park and went to Portsea Back Beach (Portsea Surf Beach) to look for rips in the water and put our feet in the water. We walked back up to the bus across the hot sand and arrived back at school at 5:00pm safely (without any further burst tyres!). It was a great day!

Intermediate Girls Tennis

In warm conditions and missing a number of team members, the Coburg High School intermediate girls tennis team ventured to Moomba Park Tennis Club to play Pascoe Vale Girls Secondary College (PVGSC). Against more experienced opponents, the girls performed admirably. It was pleasing to see a noticeable growth and development in skills and game sense in all of our players over the day. The girls also deserve to be commended for playing twice to give the PVGSC ‘B’ team a round of singles and doubles. Team members were: Esther, Dilara, Nicoletta, Nicole and Maybell .

Division Swimming

On Wednesday 7th of March, the Coburg High swim-team ventured to the Fitzroy Swimming Pool in order to take part in the Moreland Division Swimming Championships. Competing against schools such as Princess Hill SC, Melbourne Girls College, Uni High and John Fawkner SC, we had multiple swimmers finish in good positions. Elijah (Year 10), Dylan and Samantha (Year 9), Xavier (Year 8) and Isy (Year 7) all came either 1st, or 2nd in their individual races; major congratulations to Dylan who placed first in two of his events. We also had some success in the freestyle relays with the girls 15 freestyle relay team placing third and the boys 14 freestyle relay team doing the same. On behalf of the swim team, we would like to thank Darren and Amanda for supervising us on the day and overall I would like to congratulate the entire swim team on making it to the division championships.

Intermediate Boys Volleyball

On Thursday 15 March, the year 9 and 10 boys volleyball team won the divisional round of inter-school competition. All of the Coburg students should be congratulated on their attendance at lunchtime trainings as the extra time put in definitely showed through on the day. Both Coburg teams were quite disciplined and generally stuck to our ‘style’ of play, which was excellent to see. There’s still some work to be done before regional finals, but the group now has a very solid base of skills and knowledge to build on. Well done on winning the division and let’s now work hard on the way to regionals!
